Discuss this quote by Maya Angelou: “Nothing will work unless you do.”
From my point of view, if she refers to the two subjects I mentioned above. I agree with her flatly.
I know that there is a phrase that everyone repeats like a parrot.”Opportunities come when they have to , you’re the one that have to be prepared for them,” I think this is a cliché like many others, we repeat when we do not know what to said . Or to make another person feel guilty or worthless.
As a Buddhist I believe that the opportunities that are for you come when you’re ready. The only requirement is that you are prepared and know what you want.
I myself am an example. For a long time while I was mired in depression over the loss of my husband. I worked in good companies. But my depressive state was such that I could not be more than two months on the job. So for six years I have gone from company to company. Worked because it’s what everyone recommended me to do. Obviously if I had known what I know now of mourning and depression. I had taken the time to go to recover from grief and depression. Then come back to work.
For a long time I felt guilty for having lost so good employment opportunities in such good company. But now I realize that there were not opportunities but something I have to do To keep myself financially . I can not call these work opportunities, because it was not time for them.
For me a good opportunity is something good, which happens when you are ready for it.
Returning to the Maya phrase. Before making a decision think if your mental state is right to address such circumstance, job or project. As one can not drive if is drunk. You can not do a good job, or create a good project if your personal and emotional level are no good.
For the record, there is a difference between walking short of money and be depressed.
One can not have money or have little but maintain the ability to create. An example is the writer of Harry Potter.
When I speak of the mental state of people. Generally people tend to panic or become defensive. What I find absurd. Because it is easier to go to the dentist when the tooth hurts, but when emotionally you’re not 100%, not going to a psychologist it doesn’t make sense . People
must discard the idea that you have to be crazy to ask for help from a psychologist. And yes, if you what you need is a coach to help you overcome your fear of change, or take on new projects. Do not be afraid to ask for help. What can happen? in the worst case you realize that everything that happens to you is normal and you are not that special.
Ask for help when you need it, doesn’t make you a weak person, or dependent. Jus someone who is aware of his limitations.
Which is good in a long-term. If you know your limitations you can predict the effort you needed to do archive a goal.
